Here’s How to Register an Apprentice:
Step 1
The apprentice completes an Application for Apprenticeship and submits it online, or completes it by hand and submits it to an Employment Ontario Apprenticeship Office.
Step 2
Upon receipt of the application, an Employment & Training Consultant from the Employment Ontario Apprenticeship Office creates a Registered Training Agreement (RTA) and mails it to the apprentice to complete with their employer. The RTA must be completed and submitted back to the Employment & Training Consultant.
Step 3
The apprentice must now complete a Member Application Form with the Ontario College of Trades (OCOT). When completed, the apprentice mails or faxes it to the OCOT office along with a $60 membership fee. The membership application and fee must be submitted within 90 days of the RTA. If not, the apprentice will need to complete a new RTA, as outlined in Step 2.
Step 4
Once the OCOT Member Application Form and fee are received, an OCOT Apprenticeship ID Card is created and mailed to the apprentice. This can take several weeks. The apprentice’s name will then become searchable via online public database.
