Position Description
The Instructors will be involved in an industry-based training program that provides entry-level Cannabis Production training to 24 individuals, who need support to enter the field. You will report to the Cannabis Production Worker Training & Recruitment Program Coordinator and work with The Career Foundation’s SAO Program Manager as needed. This technical training will enable participants to work productively, safely and efficiently in accordance to Cannabis Production regulations.
As an Instructor, you have the experience, expertise, and ability to effectively instruct in the Cannabis industry in Ontario. You will be responsible for delivering provided curriculum, coordinating daily lessons that are engaging, evaluating student progress, recording and maintaining program inventory, and maintaining program documentation. The successful applicant will possess a combination of formal training, teaching experience and work experience within the Cannabis industry.

- Duration of Contract: 3 weeks – August 4, 2020 to August 24, 2020
- Number of Positions to Fill: 1 In-person Instructor and 1 virtual On-line Instructor; or a mix of the two positions shared
- Location(s): Remote for Virtual Instructor, Downtown Hamilton, ON for In-Person Instructor. Some travel may be required to training or employer sites
- Experience: 2-5 years of experience in the Cannabis industry and/or teaching and training in a related field
- Reporting to: Cannabis SAO Program Coordinator
- Start date: August 4th, 2020
- Rate of Pay: $80/hr for virtual instruction; $100/hr for in-person instruction (max of 8 hours per day including 6 hours delivery and 2 hours lesson planning/prepping class/marking)

Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
- Oversee students including daily activities
- Provide effective instruction; create daily work plans and comply with curriculum
- Effectively communicate learning objectives, measure learning outcomes, and conduct competency testing
- Keep accurate records of student achievement and attendance, and maintain discipline and respect in an educational setting
- Provide support and coaching to students and staff, and work with all internal and external program partners
- Provide updates and report concerns to the Cannabis Production Worker Training & Recruitment Program Coordinator as requested and work in partnership with The Career Foundation’s Program Manager to discuss student issues etc.
- Represent program as a subject matter expert for students, staff, partners and Program Advisory Committee
- Stay abreast of vocational and industry trends, employer requirements and new classroom instruction and techniques
- Inspect all training equipment and tools daily to ensure safety
- Oversee training site facilities and maintain relationships with facility host organization
- Identify potential hazards in the workplace and mitigate potential hazards
- Promote the program and its mission, goals and objectives
- Participate in the Cannabis Production Worker Training Program graduation ceremony (date to be determined)
- Marking assignments and tests; signing off skill competencies; providing feedback to students
- Coordinating guest speakers and/or field trips if permitted.
Qualifications/Skills Required:
- Minimum 2-5 years of experience and/ or training in the Cannabis Production industry or Horticulture industry
- Holds relevant industry certifications/qualifications
- Successful completion of relevant education and training in Cannabis/ Horticulture industry
- G license and access to personal vehicle required
- Working knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act, WSIB, Rules and Regulations, etc.
- Use of personal vehicle, computers, internet, etc.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, leadership and team management skills
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups, including those requiring additional supports
- Current First Aid & CPR
- Commitment to safe work practices and habits
- Able to motivate and train within an environment that will ensure the safety of students, equipment, and materials while providing proper supervision of hands-on technical training
- Sensitive to the needs of a diverse group of inexperienced students
- Can work cooperatively with the Cannabis Production Worker Program Coordinator and The Career Foundation’s Program Manager
- Able to identify and fairly monitor student’s learning outcomes and effectively manage the classroom environment to ensure proper behaviour, rules and policies are adhered to
- Can effectively share knowledge and experience in a clear and concise manner; able to break down complex concepts and adapt teaching methods in order to enhance the learning experience for a diverse group of students
- Professional, self-starter, who takes initiative and exercises good judgment
- Problem-solving skills and experience with conflict management
- Office administration and record keeping skills, ability to maintain inventory and student attendance records.
