Job Posting: Administrative Assistant (2020 Canada Summer Jobs)

Important Application Details: 

To be eligible to apply for this position, candidates must be between the ages of 15 to 30 years.  This role is intended for youth looking to gain work experience in the social services sector.

Please note that due to Covid-19, the candidate chosen for the position will work remotely to start but may transition to the office setting if/ when possible. Some of the responsibilities listed below may be altered slightly to allow for remote work.


  • Position Type: Canada Summer Jobs Position – 30 hours per week; 9 weeks
  • Start Date: July 6, 2020
  • Number of Positions: 1
  • Location: Hamilton

Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

  • Support The Career Foundation’s Cannabis Production Worker Training & Recruitment Program
  • Attend to incoming calls, provide program information to callers, online applicants, and walk-in visitors
  • Schedule assessment appointments for applicants and make confirmation calls, follow up with participants who are absent/late
  • Source out community information and provide general referral information to visitors regarding other area community programs and services
  • Conduct data entry and information updates
  • Provide general support to clients using computers and online tools for job search
  • Assist staff with various admin duties such as filing, faxing photocopying
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications/Skills Required:

  • Diploma or Degree (or working towards completing) in Human Resources, Business Administration, Social Services
  • Superior computer skills using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, Power Point)
  • Customer service oriented with ability to uphold the organization’s service standards and policies
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills for giving and receiving information
  • A professional yet courteous approach to service with a high level of respect for the diversity of the people served and an ability to maintain client confidentiality
  • Excellent organizational skills, able to multi-task, take initiative and manage change/transitions
  • Possesses core competencies including communication skills; punctuality & attendance; organization/time management; self-motivated/self-directed; interpersonal skills/attributes and professionalism
  • Flexible to assist team members and clients
  • Must have access to a computer and reliable internet access.
